Reflexology is the stimulation of reflexes on the feet, encouraging the body to heal itself and restoring natural balance to mind, body and soul.
Reflexology is a specific pressure technique applied to the feet where all the internal body structures and organs are mirrored in miniature.
Reflexology is recognised for reducing stress, inducing relaxation and improving general well-being. It also encourages elimination of waste products from within the body, improves circulation and assists the body in maintaining a balanced state.
Reflexology can be used to treat:- fertility problems; constipation and indigestion; odema/water retention; sciatica; urinary tract infections; better sleep; more energy; decreases stress levels and anxiety.
Reflexology is a wonderful therapy that can be used safely during pregnancy, labour and post pregnancy. It prepares the body for labour by balancing the body's systems, especially the endocrine system which is responsible for the secretion of many important hormones. The purpose of reflexology during pregnancy is for relaxation; to alleviate symptoms; support the mother to be healthy; prepare for birth; assist in the prevention of a variety of pregnancy related conditions.
Stress and anxiety over fertility issues can have a negative effect on fertility making it a very difficult time for couples. Reflexology can help reduce stress by relaxing the body both physically and emotionally. When combined with affirmations, visualizations and relaxation techniques, reflexology can help calm the body and mind, having a positive effect on fertility and may create a healthier environment for conception to occur.
Lou can treat at any stage of the conception journey – including if it’s a medicated /assisted cycle such as Clomid / IUI / IVF / ICSI. Fertility Reflexology works by enhancing the effects of the medication you are taking, ensuring that you are supported both physically and emotionally at all times.
It is advised that you plan to have reflexology well in advance of any assisted conception treatments. But don’t worry if you have only a short time before your IVF treatment starts, reducing stress levels beforehand is still beneficial.
Reflexology does not claim to cure any condition, and infertility is no exception to this. It is important to note that everyone responds to reflexology differently and no reflexologist can give you a guarantee that you will get pregnant.
Lou is a member of the National Register of Reflexologists Ireland and accredited with the Fertility Reflexology Network UK as a certified fertility reflexologist.
